In an experiment the stoichiometry of potassium chlorate will be investigated to use the results to analyze a potassium chlorate-potassium chloride mixture. Potassium chlorate is a compound containing the elements potassium, chlorine, and oxygen. When heated strongly, the compound decomposes and all oxygen can be driven off. The potassium and chlorine remain as the product potassium chloride, for which the formula is KCl. When a mixture of potassium chlorate and potassium chloride is heated, the mass loss due to oxygen evolved from the potassium chlorate enables you to calculate how much potassium chlorate was present in the original mixture. To speed the rate at which the decomposition occurs, manganese dioxide is used as a catalyst. The mass of the manganese dioxide remains constant.

After the second part of this experiment is done (part B), if you found the following data:

-the mass of test tube plus the catalyst

-the mass of test tube and catalyst plus the unknown mixture

-the mass of test tube and catalyst plus residue

-the mass of the unknown mixture

-the mass of oxygen lost

-the number of moles of oxygen atoms evolved

-the number of moles of potassium chlorate decomposed

-the mass of potassium chlorate in the original sample

how would you find from this data:

-the percentage weight of potassium chlorate in the unknown mixture
