A literary analysis is an essay that closely examines literary texts in order to understand their message, interpret their meanings, and appreciate the writer's techniques and style. The point of a literary analysis Is to show another way a text might be read or understood (your interpretation).
Furthermore, a literary analysis is an argument in which you argue that your interpretation of the text is valid. The thesis must be arguable and not obvious. Since it Is an argument the literary analoil goes beyond 5iMply summarizing the text.
As a matter of fact, an analysis requires that you look carefully at the language, words, images, metaphors, contextual information, and the elements of fiction. In order to write a literary analysis, you must assume that each word of a text is important, meaningful, and serves a purpose in the overall work.
Once you formulate your interpretation, you must use evidence from the text and format your essay according to MLA style. For this essay, choose ONE of the short stories in the Fiction portion of the class (Modules 1-5) and write an analysis essay.
Essays should be in MLA format, 3-4 full pages in length, double spaced, in 12 pt Times New Roman Font or 11 pt Calibri Font.
At least ONE outside source is required to support your argument.
