Assessment - Annotated Bibliography - Interdependence of the Tourism, Hospitality and Events Industries

Overview

The objective of this assessment is for students to more closely examine how the tourism, hospitality and events industries relate to one another, in an interdependent manner. This will be done by gathering resources and creating an annotated bibliography. A bibliography is a list of citations to resources such as book and articles. An annotated bibliography not only lists each of the sources but describes or evaluates them.

Using the two sources listed in the overview of assessment section as well as researching a third source, you are required to create an annotated bibliography. For this assessment, you are required to critically review the three sources. Your critical review needs to be conducted in terms of the way the information provided in each source highlights the way in which the tourism, hospitality and events industries are related to each other and are interdependent.

The intended audience for this assessment are your classmates studying in the first year of the Bachelor of Tourism, Hospitality and Events Management.

Your assessment must include the following:
• An introduction of the subject and the sources used (150 words maximum)
• For each source, indicate the following (400 words for each source):
1. Citation
a. Full bibliographic citation (Harvard Author Date System)
2. Introduction
a. Background of the author(s)
b. Summary of the content and scope of the text
c. Discuss the reliability of the text
3. Aims and research methods used
4. Scope of the text
5. Usefulness
a. Discuss the relevance or usefulness of the text for your research
b. A critical review of the available research or information on the given topic
c. Highlight any special features of the text that were unique or helpful such as charts and graphs
d. State the strengths of the text
6. Limitations
a. State the limitations of the text
7. Conclusions
a. Identify any conclusions made by the author(s)
8. Reflection
a. How the source further extends your knowledge of the interdependence of the tourism, hospitality and events industry are related to each other
b. Present your view or reaction to the text referring to the topic provided for this assessment.
c. Point out in what way the text relates to the topic of this assessment
• Conclusion reflecting on all three sources in relation to the topic for this assessment (150 words)
