Project - Genre Analysis Tips and Guidelines
Question 1. Begin by stating your research topic and research question(s).
Question 2. Next, based on your field of study, select a research topic within your discipline and gather four credible sources, which can include conference or journal articles, newspapers, and magazine articles. For example, you may choose one news article, two journal articles, and one magazine article that are relevant to your research questions.
Question 3. If your interest lies in examining the nutritional benefits of drinking fruit juice compared to consuming a whole fruit, search for sources that address similar research focuses but belong to different genres. Analyze the content, organizational structure, and other characteristics of each genre. Consider the intended purpose of each genre and identify the target audience for the sources.
Question 4. In your analysis, discuss how the content of each source addresses your research questions and research focus. Depending on genre, discuss what the arguments are and how arguments are presented.Point out the overall structure and organization by comparing the selected sources. Examine how the structure of each genre influences the overall structure of the sources and how effectively it fulfills the intended purpose of each genre.
Question 5. Begin by thoroughly reading and analyzing all four sources, paying attention to key arguments and organizational patterns within their respective genres. The objective of this project is to identify genre-specific features in texts within your discipline and discuss how effectively each source utilizes these genre features.
