MyPlate Assessment
Instructions
The federal government supplies several tools to ensure Americans have access to the latest nutrition information.
This assignment will help you understand the purpose of tools from the U.S. government intended to provide nutrition education to the public. You will look closely at the MyPlate website and consider the content. You will then compare that content with tools from other developed countries and identify consistencies. Finally, you will be asked to consider potential deficiencies in the available tools.
1. Examine closely the MyPlate website. After reviewing the content, answer the following questions. Please feel free to add additional comments, observations, or critiques.
a. Is it user-friendly?
b. What demographics are targeted?
c. Does it take into account nutrition through the lifecycle?
d. How could you use MyPlate and other content on the website in your practice as a nutrition professional?
2. Compare the guidelines presented via MyPlate with Australian Guide to Healthy Eating OR Canada's Food Guide for Health Eating.
Be sure in your assignment you indicate which one you have chosen to compare to MyPlate. In your opinion, which is more user- friendly? Which is more universally appealing? Please provide a brief justification for your indicated preferences. Is there anything from the Canadian or Australian guide or from the new Dietary Guidelines you would like to see added to MyPlate?
