Question: We've now spent more than a week talking about the blockbuster. By now you should have a pretty good idea of what qualities and characteristics belong to this particular genre of filmmaking. As I've mentioned before, these sorts of films used to be outliers from Hollywood, rarities that only appeared every so often due to their incredibly high production costs. Now they seem to be just about the only type of film mainstream Hollywood studios make. Gone are the days of the romantic comedy and the mid-budget movie as studios continue to push forward primarily with micro-budget films and blockbusters. Also gone are the days of them only being released in the summer months, with recent hits like Black Panther and Fate of the Furious being released in February and April, respectively.

So here's the question. Do you believe that the blockbusterization of Hollywood is a good thing or a bad thing and why do you believe that? Should the market/box office receipts be the sole dictator of the kinds of films studios make or should these organizations be making more diverse films (in terms of genres, casts, budgets, etc.) that play to people other than the blockbuster crowds? Lastly, what do you believe might bring about an end to this filmmaking trend?
