Question

You are a political analyst for your state's chapter of the American Nurses' Association (ANA). In the last year, several surrounding states have passed laws prohibiting employers to mandate overtime for nurses. Your state chapter of the ANA is advocating for similar legislation to be passed in your state. Research suggest that 12-hour shifts are not good for patient care or for nurses' health. When overtime is mandated and nurses are required to work more than 12 hours in a 24 our period, the dangers increase. The Chair of the Senate Health Advisory Committee has contacted you to get a position statement from your state ANA chapter. As an evidence-based practitioner, you take an evidence-informed health policy approach to drafting the position statement.
