You are a new graduate nurse on a medical surgical unit who is assigned a post-operative client following hip replacement surgery. The health care provider prescribed antibiotic medication be administered immediately following surgery. You submit a request to the pharmacy for the medication. One hour later, the medication is delivered to your unit.

The nurse who is precepting you is preparing to demonstrate the steps of medication administration when the electronic medication record screen turns off and will not turn back on. You make several attempts to resolve the computer issue with no success.
