TEACHING PROJECT
Demonstrating the links between educational theory and clinical education in practice
Length: 2,500 words
The purpose of this project is to provide you with the opportunity to apply an understanding of the principles of clinical and patient education into a teaching session.
You are to choose either a patient education or clinic education teaching session (for example, to a group of students, or other nurses) related to your own area of clinical practice. This assessment will assist you to develop skills in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating future teaching sessions.
You are required to develop this session into a clearly defined teaching session using the below criteria.
Part A: Teaching Plan (500 words)
In a table format provide a well-developed teaching plan.
This plan should include:

The title of your teaching session
The goal of the teaching session
Appropriately developed behavioural learning objectives
A brief overview of what will be covered in the teaching session
The learning environment, timing, mode of delivery and instructional methods / materials
How you will evaluate the teaching session, including how you will determine if the behavioural learning objectives have been met
Part B: (2,000 words)
Provide a written account of how you have used the education literature to demonstrate best practice when planning this teaching session. Your discussion should include how you would:
1. Assess the learners' readiness to learn, motivation, learning style, literacy, cultural and any ethical considerations
2. Identify which learning theory/theories you will use to achieve optimal educational outcomes. Discuss why you have chosen this learning theory as a framework and how it may facilitate the best outcomes for this education session. Describe how you will include aspects of this theory into your teaching session.
3. Deliver the education session to maximise learning
4. Evaluate your teaching and the effectiveness of the session.
