IT/Business Alignment
There are two stages for the assessment in this course. Both stages relate to the one case study. Grace Kennedy Group: The new Chief Information Officer [CIO] and IT Governance by Golding & Facey-Shaw (2019) Journal of Information Technology Teaching Cases.
Rationale for the assessment task:
The rationale for this assessment task is to consolidate and evaluate your understanding of IT Governance and the COBIT framework, and most importantly, to develop, practice and evaluate your ability to analyse and create insights by bringing together various components of knowledge.
The ability to analyse is crucial to your career success whether that career is in services management, coding or most any other domain. This is an opportune time to be reminded that university studies and course work are not only about acquiring knowledge but about developing the ‘soft skills' including the ability to learn independently which are pivotal to your career success.
The scenario: Sutherland is a newly promoted Chief Information Officer (CIO) to the Grace Kennedy Group. Sutherland is surprised but pleased with the promotion but at the same time apprehensive.
The outgoing CIO has charged Sutherland with a mammoth task to "articulate a new transformative, strategic and value creating IT vision for the group" (p.45).
Sutherland has a board presentation in week and needs your help to generate ideas and insights for a new paradigm for I & T governance to share that at the board presentation.
Your task is to generate some useful insights by drawing on COBIT 2019 which will assist Sutherland with the preparation for the board presentation. To accomplish this, you will need to carefully read the case study, extracting relevant information, relate it to the COBIT 2019 framework elements and make connections among the COBIT 2019 framework knowledge as well as other knowledge of ITSM, and with knowledge of the organization in order to generate insights.
There are two stages to your task. A template is used only for case study assessment 1 only. Case assessment stage 2 does not have a required template
The case study, and each stage of the case assessment are detailed below. Both stage 1 and stage 2 refer to the same case study (i.e. Grace Kennedy case study).
