A gas in a piston-cylinder device is compressed (through a combination of external force on the piston and cooling) in such a manner that the pressure and volume are related by pV^(n)= constant. Given an initial state of 100 kPa and 1 m^(3) and a final volume of 0.5 m^(3). Evaluate the work transfer (in kJ) if (a) n = 0, (b) n = 1, (c) n = 1.4, and (d) plot a p-V diagram for each processes and show the work by shaded areas.
