You are an HR Consultant to a private, not-for-profit high school where the board of directors wants to revise the compensation system for all employees. The school has employees in a variety of job classifications: principal, vice-principal, teachers, counselors, coaches, admissions staff, registrar, clerical staff, food service workers, and custodians. Employees' rates of pay have always been lower than what would be paid for comparable positions within the local public school district. Annual pay increases consist of the same modest percentage increase for everyone across the board. The only employee benefit is health insurance. Turnover in all job classifications has been high, and the principal is concerned that many employees have been evaluated as barely average performers who seem content to get by with doing the minimum.
The board of directors has asked you to evaluate the school's compensation and benefits program and recommend 1) one change that could impact employee motivation in order to reduce turnover and improve retention, and 2) one change that could impact employee motivation to inspire higher levels of job performance. For each of the two changes that you identify, write at least one full paragraph to explain your reasoning for your recommendation.
