The IMA Statement of Ethical Professional Practice, the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) and the AICPA Code of Professional Conduct as a reference, case analysis for Case 2.7 Milton Manufacturing Company which may be found on pp 107 of the text. In your analysis, be sure to use ethical reasoning in accounting. You may find it helpful to review the ethical decision-making frameworks in Chapters 1 & 2 and lesson 3. Use the Rest's Four-Component Model of Ethical Decision Making and the Integrated Ethical Decision-Making Process Model (p.84) to guide you to reason out what the right thing to do is and how to carry out the action.
Question 1. Identify the ethical and professional issues of concern to Plotkin and Wald in this matter using the IMA Statement of Ethical Professional Practice, the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), and AICPA Code of Professional Conduct as a reference. Apply the logic of the model to Plotkin's decision making process. What are the challenges for Plotkin in that regard?
Question 2. Identify and evaluate the alternative courses of action using ethical reasoning. Consider Kohlberg's six stages of moral development. Explain what Plotkin and Wald should do at this point and why if she reasoned at each of the six stages and what ethical considerations should influence her decision. Analyze the alternative courses of action available to Plotkin and Wald using Kohlberg's six stages of moral development and the ethical reasoning methods to help reason through alternatives.
Question 3. Evaluate the moral intensity issues and the magnitude of the situation in the case and explain how the moral intensity of the situation might influence ethical action.
Question 4. Assume you decide to confront Milton. What course of action consistent with one's professional obligations to present to Milton and explain the reasons you selected that alternative. How would you counter the likely reasons and rationalizations you will hear from Milton? What levers do you have to influence Milton's behavior?
