Professional Reflection on Case Study Analysis
This assessment requires you to reflect on a provided case study within your chosen discipline. You'll analyse the case study, considering interdisciplinary challenges (within groups with students from other disciplines), ethical considerations, collaboration strategies, and professionalism. Your reflection should offer insights into your professional identity within the context of the case study analysis.
Learning Outcome 1: Apply the principles of academic integrity to the acquisition of knowledge.
Learning Outcome 2: Identify and demonstrate a range of communication skills, styles and digital literacy to enhance your collaboration and impact on relevant, diverse and culturally-safe health practices.
Learning Outcome 3: Describe the principles of professionalism, and inter-professional collaborative practice, in the context of the Australian healthcare system.
Learning Outcome 4: Use ethical principles and professional standards of practice to make ethical decisions.
Learning Outcome 5: Review the importance of discipline specific scope of practice and how it is applied in a professional setting.
This assessment involves critically responding to a case study, showcasing your ability to integrate theoretical knowledge with practical scenarios. The reflective piece should provide insights into the application of key principles and your evolving understanding of professional practices in your own discipline as well as at least 3 other disciplines. Your group will choose ONE (1) case study from the list to work on for this assessment.
Instructions
1. You can choose or you will be allocated to a group in the Week 5 lectorial session. You will be given a small amount of time to introduce yourselves and organise the best way of communicating about the assessment.
2. In a whole classroom discussion, we will introduce the case studies, and you will choose the case study for your group. You will begin to familiarise yourself with the scenario, key stakeholders, challenges, and objectives outlined in the case study with a focus on your own discipline.
3. From Week 6-10, you will need to communicate with your group members via a form of communication that you have agreed with in Week 5.
4. Your group will choose ONE (1) case study from the list to work on for this assessment.
5. In Week 11-12, you will come together again in the lectorial with your group members to work together during class time.
Within your group, you will have discussions about:
4. Discuss your chosen case study from your own discipline, as well as a interdisciplinary perspective. Identify and explore the challenges faced by professionals from at least three (3) other (listed) disciplines involved in addressing the scenario. Consider aspects such as communication barriers, ethical dilemmas, collaboration strategies, and professionalism.
5. Evaluate the ethical implications of decisions made by professionals within the scenario. Consider the ethical principles guiding your discipline and how they apply to the situation presented in the case study.
6. Examine the collaboration strategies employed by professionals in the case study. Assess the effectiveness of interdisciplinary collaboration in addressing the challenges and achieving the objectives outlined. Reflect on the importance of teamwork, mutual respect, and shared goals in interdisciplinary settings.
7. Reflect on the professionalism demonstrated by professionals in the case study. Evaluate their adherence to professional standards, codes of conduct, and disciplinary norms. Consider how professionalism contributes to effective interdisciplinary collaboration and positive outcomes for stakeholders in your case study.
8. Reflect on your personal identity within the context of the case study analysis. Consider how your discipline-specific knowledge, skills, and values align with the challenges and objectives presented in the case study. Explore opportunities for personal growth, development, and contribution within interdisciplinary settings.
9. Engage actively in group interactions, communication, and collaboration and self-evaluate your own contribution as well as your group members, through SparkPlus. Contribute meaningfully to group discussions, peer feedback, and collaborative tasks to enhance your learning experience and support your group members. The SparkPlus will calculate a Relative Performance Factor (RPF) and this will be applied to your grading for the rubric criteria, Professional and Integration of Group Work.
10. Prepare your reflective piece, incorporating your analysis of the case study and personal reflections on professional identity. Ensure clarity, coherence, and logical progression in your writing.
Case Study Background:
A local health organisation is launching a diabetes management initiative to address the rising prevalence of diabetes in the community. The initiative aims to improve diabetes prevention, early detection, and management to reduce complications and improve overall health outcomes among affected individuals.
Objectives:
- Identify interdisciplinary challenges and explore solutions.
- Analyse the impact of collaboration on community health outcomes.
- Reflect on individual professional roles within a broader healthcare context.
