Assessment Report
Learning outcome 1: Explain the relevance and importance of HR Information Systems for HRM practice.
Learning outcome 2: Analyse HR Information System data to draw meaningful conclusions for HRM.
Learning outcome 3: Critically evaluate the effectiveness of HR Information Systems and associated data usage and analysis.
Assessment overview
Description: Continuing with the same business problem as Assessment 2, you will use your proposed analysis plan and conduct extended data analysis techniques to solve the problem. You will use story-telling techniques to produce a report containing your analysed data, and interpretation of the findings to offer solutions to the business problem.
Assessment rationale
To become more data driven and people analytics focused, you need to scope the problem, identify solutions based on available data, and offer recommendations and solutions to management. Developing the capability to tell stories of your data, how you have approached the problem, and what solutions you will propose based on evidence is an important way for HR to influence and motivate. HR is a very complex and nuanced subject because it deals with human relationships in the workplace. Therefore, storytelling is a very effective way to explain complex and nuanced issues to people because we can all relate to them. Storytelling can help HR effectively sell ideas or opportunity to the business and bring HR data to life.
Instructions
The business problem in Assessment 3 is the extension of the business problem you worked on in Assessment 2. Therefore, you should implement your proposed analysis plan (factoring in any feedback) from Assessment 2 to run the analysis, interpret the results, and provide insights and recommendation about the business problem.
In addition to the analysis plan you proposed in Assessment 2, the CEO is also interested to see if you could test a basic statistical model that might help predict whether someone leaves the organisation.
You should use SPSS to run all the analysis, discuss your findings, and present solutions and recommendations using appropriate storytelling techniques. You may also use Microsoft Excel or another data visualization applet to develop visually appealing graphs to represent the analysis. The report is to be presented to the Senior Management of Golden Valley, therefore, it needs to be written in such a way so as to convince the stakeholders to take relevant action to improve the workplace.
Remember also that it is absolutely appropriate (and good) if your analysis provides findings that aren't significant - or more specifically - findings that don't show a significant difference between female and male employees at Golden Valley. If there is no significant difference between male and female employees this would show evidence of workplace equality.
Prepare for your assessment:
• Integrate the feedback from Assessment 2 into your analysis plan.
• Implement the data analysis techniques that you consider suitable to provide the requested insights.
• Building on your analysis plan from Assessment 2:
o Run all the analysis tests in SPSS (from your proposed analysis plan).
o Identify and run additional analysis tests appropriate to examine any other relevant insights.
o Interpret the findings from your data analysis tests.
o Propose recommendations to the organisation on how it might improve the workplace, based on your findings.
o Use relevant research to support your findings and recommendations where relevant.
o Consider any limitations identified by your chosen data analysis technique(s).
• Choose an appropriate story-telling technique to tell the story of your data in your report.
Write the report:
Your report should include the following:
• Executive summary that summarises the key findings and recommendations
• Introduction
• Body content
o Explanation of the problem
o Analysis plan and justification of your data analysis techniques or tests
o Presentation and interpretation of your findings
o Solutions and recommendations
o Limitations of analysis
• Conclusion
