Problem
Scenario: Mr Kieran Murphy is a 58-year-old gentleman admitted with community acquired pneumonia. Kieran is from local Aboriginal community. He lives at home with his partner and was independent with his activities of daily living prior to his admission to the ward. His past medical history includes unstable angina, hypertension, high cholesterol and diabetes mellitus. His BMI = 32. His current medical plan is as follows:
1) 4 hourly vital signs
2) IV antibiotics- Ceftriaxone 2g OD
3) Regular meds as prescribed
4) Chest X-ray to be done
5) Daily FBC and UEC
He rings the nursing call bell and reports of chest pain of sudden onset. What are your actions? You are an enrolled nurse working in a health care facility and is allocated to care for a client with chest pain. Scenario is given.
You must perform the following:
I. Nursing assessment of the client.
II. Provide immediate care for the client based on current care plan.
III. Evaluate the care plan and make necessary changes.
IV. Suggest discharge planning strategies based on primary health care principles.
Nursing assessment may include Vital signs, A to E assessment and ECG measurement.
