Problem
The topic will be... The Decapitation of Newborns During Birth. You would think an accident like this was an isolated freak event, but it was not. Unfortunately, this tragic event has happened a few times over the last decade, with one of the most recent known occurrences being in July of 2023. In doing your research, you will see that the doctors and hospital staff worked to deceive the parents. They would conceal the injuries in multiple ways and, in one case, even sewed the head back on the baby and, to take it a step further told the parents the child was stillborn. For this, focus specifically on the case from last year (Southern Regional Medical Center in Riverdale, Georgia). While this topic is difficult, it really makes you think about how the medical system works and how ethics comes into play. Who should be at fault? Should others working with the doctor during delivery also be held accountable? Should someone on the staff have told the family? Cultural competence, class, race, age, and so much more come into play in this case.
