Nutrition Reflection Assignment
Nutrition plays a huge part in overall health and wellness. You can exercise until you can't exercise any more, but if you are not eating properly, i.e., eating to fuel your body with the essential nutrients, you will not reap the benefits of your hard work. You may also not be able to sustain your level of physical needs, succumbing to dehydration and susceptibility to illness due to inadequate nutrition.
To complete this assignment you willlog and assess your food and beverage intake for 3 consecutive days and share your nutrition strengths and deficiencies.
Include your food log within the submission.
Using the Chapter 5 Nutrition information in the Health textbook and the web resources listed below, you will evaluate your nutrition for strengths and deficiencies.
Using full sentences and paragaphs, answer the prompts below:
"Are you consuming a balance of the six essential nutrients every day?" If yes, explain how. If you are not, identify changes you could make to ensure that you do.
"Are you following the 2019 Canada's Food Guidehealthy eating recommendations?" If yes, explain how. If you are not, identify changes you could make to ensure that you do.
"Are you eating or drinking something in excess i.e., eating too much sugar, salt, carbs or protein, drinking too much alcohol or energy drinks?" If yes, explain how. If you are not, identify changes you could make to ensure that you do.
"Are you missing a key element of a healthy and balanced nutrition plan i.e., not eating enough servings of vegetables or protein, or not drinking enough water?" If yes, explain how. If you are not, identify changes you could make to ensure that you do.
Once you have identified your strengths and deficiencies, devise a strategy and plan for improving your nutrition this semester. This strategy should clearly detail your plan - what will you change (begin doing and quit doing), how often will you make these changes, why are you making these changes, etc.
In your plan, include one SMART goal (as explained earlier this semester) for one nutrition change. Remember to be specific! This should be a change based off of one of your nutritional deficiencies (example: you are not consuming enough of an essential nutrient and would like to change that).
