There are many different types of legal systems around the world, they are generally grouped into a small set of categories known as families of law. There are some common elements across each of the five families, but there are many distinct differences. These differences can result in drastically different treatment of the same types of issues. For this assignment, you will review the scenario below and then
(1) Create a chart of the five families of law and
(2) Write an essay addressing the scenario. Scenario You and your best friend are heading out on two month vacation and plan to visit five destinations. The day before you are set to leave your friend tells you that it has always been her dream to steal something very valuable from each of these five locations, and that during the vacation she plans to make her dream come true. As much as you try to persuade her not to, you are certain that she will try to carry out her plan and that she will get caught. You and your friend set off for vacation with the following itinerary:
(a) Sightseeing in Great Britain
(b) Visiting famous museums and shopping in France
(c) Visiting the holy landmarks in Saudi Arabia
(d) Backpacking through various sites in China
(e) Shopping for bargains on several Navajo reservations in Arizona Part One: Five Families of Law Chart For part one of this assignment, you will create a chart explaining the five families of law for each of the locations highlighted in the scenario. The first column in the template (Family of Law) has already been completed. You are to briefly complete the other columns as follows:
Countries: Identify the countries listed in the scenario in which that type of law is dominant
Characteristics: list the characteristics of that type of law - what is that type of law known for. For example, is it a law that relies heavily on codes.
How disputes are settled: briefly explain how disputes are settled in the counties you identified. For example, does one go to court in this country, are disputes settled by another authority, etc.
How cases are handled: briefly explain how cases are handled in the counties you identified. For example, does the authority handling the case rely on case law, codes, religious doctrine, etc.
Part Two: Essay For part two of this assignment, write a 3 page essay addressing the scenario. In your essay, for each of the five places on the itinerary, summarize the following:
1- The family of law followed
2- How disputes are settled
3- How your friend's theft would be dealt with under the law in the country. Specifically, what type of legal proceedings could she expect?
What type of punishment might be applied?
4- Identify any other factors for consideration. Specifically, would the fact that your friend is female impact her treatment under the law?
Would the fact that she was a foreigner in the country impact her treatment under the law?
5- Based on your knowledge, for the scenario, is the law fair? Why or why not? Explain your answer.
6- Evaluate each countries legal system and the possibility of justice within that system. Provide examples of the impact on the social system and the people of the country. To help you structure your essay, you may use THIS TEPLATE (I will attach this) (Be sure to address all six parts for each nation and answer all questions contained within each part.
NOTE: For the Navajo reservation, assume your friend is governed by the laws of Navajo Nation. The Criminal Code is contained in Title 17 of the Navajo Nation Tribal Code. This paper will require outside research. Please include at least two sources in addition to the textbook to support your paper. In addition to fulfilling the specifics of the assignment, a successful essay must also meet the following criteria-
Length should be 3 pages, excluding cover page and references.
Viewpoint and purpose should be clearly established and sustained.
Assignment should follow the conventions of Standard American English (correct grammar, punctuation, etc.).
Writing should be well ordered, logical and unified, as well as original and insightful.
Your work should display superior content, organization, style, and mechanics.
Appropriate citation style should be followed.
