Trying to come up with the conditional probability for a problem that deals with court cases and number of appeals and reversals for a particular judge.
Judge smithTotal Cases 3037Appealed Cases 137Reversed Cases 12Prob(Appeal) .0451Prob(Reverse) .0040
What I want to find out is the probability of a reversal, given an appeal.
The 12 reversed cases are part of the 137 appealed cases but I'm not sure how I need to write and set up the problem to solve.
Suppose that bank has made a large number of loans of a certain type. The one year probability of default each loan 1.2%. The bank uses a Gaussian copula for time to default.
Determine the p-value, and at 95% confidence, test the hypotheses.
The economists in the Obama administration suggested that the stimulus package that they recommended in early 2008 would keep unemployment under eight percent.
a) yes, because the tst value -3.46 falls in the noncritical region. b) no, because the test value -1.98 falls in the critical region. c) yes, becasue the test value -3.46 falls in the critical region. d) no because the tst value -1.98 falls in the n..
Explain the meaning of the conditional mean of the dependent variable in the population regression function. Illustrate using an example.
Suppose there are two samples of size 6 and 7, with a rank sum of 58 in the sample of size 6. Using the Wilcoxon rank-sum test, evaluate the significance of the results, assuming there are no ties.
At the 5% significance level, can the station conclude that the mean age of its listeners is not 25 yrs. Formulate and test the appropriate hypotheses. Use the critical value approach.
Find the probability that a standard normal random variable will assume a value between: Find a z such that 70% of the area is above that value.
A new product has the following profit projections, associated probabilities, and indifference probability:
Assume that the smiling time of eight-week old babies, in seconds, follows a uniform distribution between 0 and 23 seconds, inclusive. This means that any smiling time from 0 to and including 23 seconds is equally likely.
Determine a 95% confidence interval for the population mean.
Suppose the weight of a product is normally distributed with a mean of 1.5 and a variance of 0.2. What percentage of products will have weights within +/- 3 standard deviations? Critically discuss the lower and upper limits bounding 50% of product we..
