Unit Learning Outcomes Addressed:
a. Describe Accounting Information Systems components and their use in an organizational setting;
b. Critically explain and evaluate business process documentation techniques;
c. Critically evaluate and justify the need for Accounting Information Systems controls;
d. Use an accounting information system to manage key accounting processes for business decision making; .
e. Critically evaluate ethical and legal aspects on the environment of accounting information systems;
f. Demonstrate advanced and integrated understanding of the different approaches for developing Accounting Information Systems.
In groups (of two) students are required to research and prepare a 500-600 word report covering the following areas:
Using the knowledge, you have gained by completing the AccountingPod/Xero assignment, you are to create and analyse reports for the senior management of Demo Company.
• The main objectives of this assignment is to allow students (in a group) to further develop teamwork skills to analyse and understand the uses of reports (both printout and screens) that can be generated from Xero.
Your Task
1. Generate the reports required for your reporting
• Create the following Accounting Reports:
i. Management Report as at July 2019.
ii. Reconciliation Reports as at 31 July 2019.
iii. Annual Accounts SPFR as at 31 July 2019.
• Export the reports to PDF.
• You have decided that you will use these reports frequently so you will put them on the Accounting Menu.
• When you have done this take a screen shot of your Accounting Menu.
2. Senior Management has seen a demonstration of the XERO accounting package and they were very impressed that the dashboard could be easily configured. To this end they have decided that it would be useful to see Business Performance Indicators and Accounts Watch List on the dashboard.
• You have been requested to amend the dashboard so that it has the following items:
i. Bank Accounts.
ii. Total Cash In and Out.
iii. Invoices owed to you.
iv. Bills you need to pay.
v. Accounts Watch List -Please amend the watch list to include any 3 of the following accounts:
1. Advertising
2. Legal Expenses
3. Telephone & Internet
4. Wages and Salaries
5. Light. Power, Heating
6. Rent
vi. Business Performance - choose three performance ratio indicators.
• You can arrange the dashboard as you like.
• Once you are satisfied with your dashboard take a screen shot of it.
3. After you have generated the reports and amended your dashboard you need to explain to the senior management of your company the following:
• The different users of the three reports you generated in section 1. That is, who will most likely use these reports and why do they use them.
• Why you chose the Accounts you added to the Accounting Watch List. What benefit it will be to the company to have these accounts on the watch list on the dashboard.
• Why you chose the performance indicators the you added to the Business Performance. Why do companies use these three indicators? What in particular do these indicators show about this company.
4. The above report should be brief (between 500 and 600 words). It should also include the following as appendices:
• The three PDF Reports.
• The screen shots of your dashboard and accounting menu.
Your Report Should:
The report is to be submitted as a professional business document and must therefore follow the SOB School Guide for Written Assignments. As with all written submissions, please ensure that you keep a duplicate copy.
• Your report must be brief (500-600 words) words (plus or minus 10%, excluding appendices).
• Include appropriate appendices (the PDF reports and screenshots for the dashboard and accounting menu).
• Be spell checked (in Australian English) and proofread thoroughly.
• Use appropriate referencing (APA) throughout the report and include full acknowledgment of sources.
