Best Consumer Electronics (BCE) is Canada's largest consumer electronics retailer. It sells televisions, computers, videogames, cell phones, and even appliances. BCE has also performed better than expected during the COVID-19 pandemic economic downturn. How has BCE managed to continue to grow in this tough, economically-challenging and competitive environment?
One key element is that BCE recognizes that its employees are a key driver of corporate performance and profitability. The company has implemented a unique management program in its head office for all their office workers. The management program is called the "Results Only Work Environment," or (ROWE). Due to the pandemic, all head office employees are now working from home. Their job performance is evaluated on the basis of whether or not the required results are achieved, their evaluation is not based on their office behavior or the required "face-time" at the office. BCE believes that giving employees control over how they manage their work will allow them to work when and where they're most productive.
Implementing ROWE as a management practice is based on a specific view of job performance - "the bottom-line results." Some employees were enthusiastic about their ability to work from home, while others were less enthusiastic and preferred coming to the office. Thus, although there appear to be benefits from the implementation of ROWE with BCE's office staff, only time will tell if the system will be successful.
QUESTION-
