CASE STUDY You are a new hire in a regional office that oversees 35 long-term care facilities. One of your goals is to build a regional knowledge development program. You have support from your supervisor in developing this new program. Your supervisor went to a recent conference and now understands the potential of using data across facilities for improved decision making. But your supervisor does not understand how to even begin such a program and is looking to you to provide some guidance.

2-It is necessary to process coded and text data before using data mining methods because "It is critical that a sizable sample of the original data is set aside and not used in any way to train or calibrate models." (p. 399). It is needed that all other data is already processed and out of the way so that data mining methods are used to its full extent. The data mining is the most critical step of data processing. To evaluate and compare overall model performance there must be a clear path for the data mining method to do its job and work at its best.

3-It is necessary to process coded and text data before using data mining methods to understand the method. The data that is included in the mining methods have information that could be missed if we aren't processing the code which could lead to incorrect interpretation. The real-world data we could visualize is not always and easy to understand. Processing the coded and text data helps us make sure we have correct data and understand it thoroughly.
