HPS206 Introduction to Forensic Psychology - Deakin University
Report - Building on the skills you developed when completing AT1 (the Oral Narrated Presentation), this assessment task will strengthen your ability to critically evaluate a case study and communicate client information in writing in the way that a professional working in a forensic setting would.
It allows you to showcase how well you can identify and present written information about (i) the management of a forensic client with offending behaviors in the community, and (ii) the process (practice) issues that workers should consider.
Mr T (who you were first introduced to as part of AT1 the Oral Narrated Presentation) has been released on parole after serving 18 months incarceration. Upon leaving the Correctional Centre he has resumed living in metropolitan Melbourne.
You are required to write a report to the Community Corrections Officer responsible for Mr T, whose role is to monitor and supervise Mr T while he is on parole, and to ensure that he complies with the conditions of his Parole Order.
You are required to write a report that addresses the following:
- identifies the ethical issues that the Parole Officer should consider and/or address when acting as Mr T's Parole Officer;
- identifies possible strategies and briefly described why these would help the Parole Officer to build engagement with Mr T; and
- outlines your assessment of Mr T's current dangerousness (i.e., his current risk of committing sexual and physical violence now that he is residing in the community) and what the Parole Officer can do to assist him to reduce this risk; and
- identifies issues of risk for the Parole Officer to consider when dealing with Mr T in terms of their own wellbeing in the workplace and outlines strategies to mitigate these risks.
IMPORTANT: While some information in Mr T's case has remained the same, there is also new information that you need to consider. It is OK to repeat information included in your AT1 submission, but it is important to integrate the new information. Some of this new information might require you to change your thinking about Mr T's recidivism risk, the ethical issues to consider, how to engage with Mr T, and the issues of risk that need to be considered by his Parole Officer. You are also required to show an extension in your learning; your report must go beyond simply describing the issues (as you did in the AT1 Oral Presentation) and also include recommendations for addressing the issues you raise.
Requirements
For your second Assessment Task you are required to submit a written report.
The report should be 1500 words.
