The Enlightenment introduced new concepts of citizenship, individual rights, and government that would inspire both violent and nonviolent upheavals. The rapid technological advancements of the Industrial Revolution would combine with Enlightenment philosophies to form the basis for new political models and demands for economic and social changes.
