Summarize the folllowing. ethodological limitation of this study is that the patients in the wedge-shaped cushion group were all recruited from nursing homes and all patients in the pillow group were recruited from acute hospitals. It would be useful in further research to recruit patients from different geriatric settings at the same time and also to include nongeriatric patients. Baseline age and gender were significantly different between both groups. Both characteristics were added to the Cox regression analysis and they did not influence the chance in developing a heel pressure ulcer. Because of a limited number of patients included in this study, the findings must be interpreted with caution. Although the reduction of heel pressure ulcers in the wedge-shaped cushion group is substantial, additional research is recommended to confirm these promising results.
