Question
Is a geocentric approach always better than ethnocentric and polycentric approaches to staffing? If not, how might the latter two work better? Should Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) spending by firms be based on their size or is it good policy for all firms to invest this way to add value? When might it not add value or be required? Large firms have more resources and visibility (quite often), which makes them more capable of investing in large SCR initiatives. These actions may have a significant impact on the society and environment, and they are usually under more scrutiny of stakeholders. SMEs have fewer resources but they can still engage in some meaningful SCR activities. Their initiatives may be more localized and community-focused. CSR can add value to firms of all sizes by bettering their reputation, building customer loyalty, and retaining employees. The geocentric approach to staffing does offer some advantages, such as creating a diverse workplace, it's not always the best for all situations. Ethnocentric and polycentric approaches may be more effective in certain scenarios, dependent upon the company's goals and the specific challenges it faces. CSR spending should be molded to the size and capabilities of the firm, ensuring value is added and it aligns with the company's strategic plan.
