Question: Ethical Relativism and the Divine Command Theory
Read the hypothetical case study below and answer the following questions:
There is a community of people living in a remote area of the world. To sustain life, community members work in mica mines. Mica is needed to make electrical components, so the extraction of mica is essential for the world. The hours are long and grueling, and the conditions are harsh but religion and faith have guided their community members for generations. Young children go with their parents everyday deep within the mines to work and there is little time for education and little resources for health care.
A neighboring community believes it is wrong to work in these mines and they refuse to do it. They disagree about children working in these mines or anyone else for that matter.
The leaders of the two communities do not want to be at odds with each other, but they do value their own members' opinions. What is needed to bring the two communities closer?
