Summary

There are different steps the board of directors for a nonprofit organization should take to enhance accountability and efficiency in its operations. Firstly, the board should ensure the members follow all laws and policies of the state agencies. Additionally, there should be documentation of compensation of board members to enhance transparency. Additionally, the board should be procedures to provide information to the public and ensure regular audits. The responsibility of the board of directors of nonprofit members is to ensure the organization is compliant, transparent, and accountable to the members of the public.  ?

Board of directors for a non-profit organization differs from the profit-making organization because of the responsibilities and accountability to the operations of the organization. The members of the board for a nonprofit organization act on behalf of the public by ensuring all the set goals are achieved. It is also important for the board of directors to be accountable to the public on the source of revenue and expenditure. The board should document how the compensation of the executive is linked to performance while comparing the payments with other organizations. The board should also define what constitutes and avoid conflict of interests. In this context, the board enables the organization to operate with transparency and accountability.

Response

Ethical behavior, trustworthiness and culpability of non-profit organization’s board members is imperative. No matter how many people an organization helps or how philanthropic it may be in the eyes of people it only take one misstep to ruin years of development and hard work. I too agree that policies and procedures must the transparent so that everyone is in agreement from the boardroom to the CEO office to the administrative and custodial staff. Everyone has a vital part to play when they decide to work for a non-profit. The job of everyone is to make sure that the organization can continue its humanitarian efforts well after our jobs are done.
