A proposed earthen dam will contain 5,000,000 cubic meters of earth. Soil to be taken from a borrow pit will be compacted to a void ratio of 0.78. The void ratio of soil in the borrow pit is 1.12. Estimate the volume of soil (cubic meters) that must be excavated from the borrow pit.
