Question: Option 2: Fuel Consumption of the Scraper

Complete Problem in Estimating Construction Costs. A scraper with a 275-hp diesel engine will be used to excavate and haul earth for a highway project. An evaluation of the jobsite conditions indicates the scraper will operate 40 minutes/hour. For this project, it is anticipated that the total cycle time will be 20 minutes for a round trip. Previous job records show the scraper operated at full power for the 1.5 minutes required to fill the bowl of the scraper and at 80% of the rated hp for the balance of the cycle time. Calculate the gallons per hour for fuel consumption of the scraper.

Deliverable: Upon completion of this project, you will deliver both:

An Excel spreadsheet to include:

• Tables of all information (data) given in the problem, formulas that reference cells thus creating dynamic formulas that will change if information in the tables change, and the final answer highlighted in yellow.

• Show all of your work (at each step) to get full credit.

A two-page narrative to describe your findings and interpret your results:

• Follow APA format and format your paper according to APA. Include a cover page and reference page.

• Support your work with at least two peer-reviewed, credible, and current scholarly articles.
