Problem 9.7: A reservoir contains natural gas at a pressure of 5000 psig and a temperature of 180 °F. The composition of the gas is 80% methane, 15% ethane, and 5% CO2 (all fractions are by mole). Estimate the temperature of the gas when it emerges at the surface under the following alternative assumptions: a) The flow to the surface is assumed to be reversible adiabatic expansion. b) The flow to the surface is assumed to be a throttling process. Take the natural gas to be an ideal-gas mixture with temperature-dependent heat capacities for each component given in Perry's Handbook. Is the ideal-gas assumption reasonable?
A problem similar to it will be on the exam. He kind of went over it, but the whole class was struggling a more in depth/intuitive walkthrough of this problem.
CHE 352 – Spring 2014, In this assignment, students will review some of the concepts of measurements discussed, 4 methods of measuring temperature, 4 methods of measuring fluid pressure
Calculate the average mechanical torque needed to turn the coil and generate power for the resistor. Identify the action of the device as that of a motor or a generator.
The volume of each stirred tank is 40,000 liters. In passingthrough this system, by how much has the activity decayed? The reaction follows first order kinetics with a constant density
A charge variation with time is given in Figure P1.1.8. Draw the corresponding current variation with time.
Devise a control system for this reactor, and draw up a preliminary piping and instrument diagram. The following points need to be considered:
How many years of useful life should be estimated for the reactor if 12 percent of the total annual expenses for the plant are due to the cost for reactor depreciation? The straight-line method for determining depreciation should be used.
The following sequences of reactions are to occur in a constant density reactor. Which type of continues flow-reactor would be best to maximize the selectivity for product C?
Plain carbon steel would be a suitable material for the tanks, but it is essential that the polymer does not become contaminated with iron in storage. Suggest some alternative materials of construction for the tanks.
Take the saturation temperature of n-propanol at 2.1 bar as 118oC. The otherphysical properties required can be found in the literature, or estimated.
A three-phase, wye-connected, cylindrical-rotor, synchronous motor, with negligible armature resistance and a synchronous reactance of 1.27 Ω per phase, is connected in parallel with a three phase, wye-connected load taking 50 A at 0.707 lagging p..
Calculate the maximum allowable particle size as a function of the bulk glucose concentrations of 5 g/ l and 50 g /l. For medium containing 30 g /l glucose, calculate Rmax at cell loading of 5 and 30 wt%.
