Laura buys a standard Lapple reverse-flow cyclone that has an outer diameter (D2) of 1.0 ft (0.3048 m). The volume flow rate of dusty air entering the cyclone is 0.260 m3 /s. Assume unit density spheres and STP conditions.

(a) Calculate all the other dimensions (in units of meters) of the cyclone (L1, L2, W, H, etc.), the average speed U of the entering air (in units of m/s), the cut diameter of this device (in units of microns), and the pressure drop across the cyclone (in units of kPa).

(b) Estimate the removal efficiency of 1 micron, 10 micron, and 100 micron particles.
