Although there are many mechanisms that help large mammals (such as elephants) keep cool in hot climates, the size of ears is a big factor. The Asian elephant's ears are about 20% smaller than the ears of the African elephant. If the radiant loss of heat through the billions of capillaries in elephant ears is the primary means of staying cool, estimate the relative temperature difference between the territory of African elephants versus the territory of Asian elephants.
