Research question

What is the prevalence and associated risk factors of hypertension among adult population attending hospital outpatient department in urban areas in Freetown, Sierra Leone?

General aims and objective

The purpose of this study was to estimate the prevalence of hypertension among Sierra Leonean population attending secondary health facilities samples aged 20-65 years, with a special interest in the risk factors associated with hypertensive participants. Another aim was to identify subjects in the high-risk groups to be affected with hypertension in the urban area, Freetown, Sierra Leone, 2018.

Specific objectives

To find out the prevalence of hypertension among adults age 20-65 years attending the outpatient departments in three selected hospitals

To identify risk factors for hypertension among adults age 20-65 years attending the outpatient departments in three selected hospitals

To identify the population at highest risk of hypertension among adults age 20-65 years attending the outpatient department in three selected hospitals

To compare the prevalence and risk factors of hypertension in Sierra Leone with high-income countries (for example the US)
