In my junior year of college, I started feeling exhausted and was coughing up a storm. My throat was sore and I had a bad headache. I went to the doctor, they listened to my breathing and they gave me antibiotics (penicillin), suspecting bronchitis. Within a 48 hr period, my mucous secretions changed color and I had difficulty breathing. I went in for xrays and they found fluid in the lungs. They switched medications (including an inhaler with a different type of antibiotic) and I got completely better (they cultured my sample on special artificial media which confirmed suspicions at that time). Luckily, I didn't have to be hospitalized but the infection took forever to get better (1month's time)
1. What's the preliminary suspected pathogen (bacterial, fungal, protozoan, viral, etc...) By you? By the doctor?
2. In reference to #1, what evidence in the story points to that? Be specific for both answers
3. Name the top 3-5 (be specific!!!!) possible causes for pneumonia (IN ORDER OF MOST LIKELY)
4. Based on all information, which of your choices do you think it was?
