The Figure below shows the block diagram of an industrial system. Components A, B and C constitute a 2 out of 3 system. The failure rates of the components are: λA = 1 10-2h-1, λB = 8 10-3h-1, λC = 6 10-3h-1, λD = 2 10-3h-1. The time horizon of the analysis is TM = 500 h.
You are required to:
1. Provide the estimates of i) the time dependent reliability R(t) of the system, ii) the system MTTF, iii) the standard deviation of the estimators in i) and ii). You are suggested to use an indirect Monte Carlo simulation method.
2. Assuming that: a) the components are continuously monitored; b) a repair starts immediately after a failure; c) there is a dedicated repair team for each component and d) the repair rates are μA = 0.05h-1, μB = 0.075h-1, μC = 0.025h-1 and μD = 0.125h-1; provide the estimates of i) the time dependent reliability R(t) of the system; the system MTTF; iii) the time dependent availability A(t); iv) the average availability over the time horizon and v) the standard deviation of the estimators.
3. Suppose now that only one repair team is available. Decide a maintenance policy by assigning rules to the repair team about the component to be first repaired in the different system failure configurations. Repeat point 2. Propose different maintenance policy and compare the results.
