Estimate the annual reduction in CO2 emissions if a 55 MWe natural gas-fired power plant (or "gas turbine") were to be replaced by a 55 MWe municipal solid waste-to-energy plant. Also estimate how much waste the MSW plant would consume per year. You may assume that the MSW plant and the gas turbine both have energy conversion efficiencies of 38%. The gas turbine combusts methane with specific energy of 50 MJ/kg. When burning methane gas, around 0.6 kg CO2 is emitted for every kWhe produced.
