Project Task: Estimate Cost of Construction of a House

This task is an extension of the previous two assessment tasks (UAT2 & UAT3) wherein the students have read and studied the housing plans and specifications and paid a visit to a under construction house.

In the current assessment task, the student is required to estimate the cost of construction of a house.

Assumptions:
• Student to take the role of a Construction Estimator
• The house to be constructed on a 300sq m block of land (dimensions: 25m Length x 12m Width) in the northern suburb of Melbourne
• It's a 3-bedroom single storey house. Refer to the below given site plan.

Construction of house involves three main works:

I. Structural Works (Foundation, Brick Masonry, Timber (Carpentry) and Concreting)
II. Plumbing Works (including water supply, sewage and drainage)
III. Electrical Works
Construction Works involves usage of:
• Plant and Equipment: Excavator, generators, tools, shovels, Ready-mix concrete trucks etc.
• Consumable material: Steel bars, steel-mesh, concrete, timber, plumbing pipes and fittings
• Labour / Manpower: Earthworks gang (excavator operator, shovel operator), Riggers and Steel-fixers, Concreters, plumbers, carpenters.
