Ethical relativism
Every culture has a different ethical relativism, a basic principle they use to consider what is morally right or wrong. With that being said, it could be difficult to agree on a universal ethical viewpoint. For example, growing up a few of the punishments I heard of growing up were; yelling, taking away toys, beating with objects or by hand, kneeling while facing the wall, sometimes burning a hand over a flame for a short period of time, along with other things. I did not see anything wrong with any of those punishment techniques in the past but I as I become more educated my opinion on that changed. I now believe most of those forms of punishments are useless and do not give the parents the desired result most of the times. In many cultures these are still acceptable ways to reprimand children but here in the United States you could go to jail for acting these out. There are many alternatives out there that will not potentially scar your child for life, the one I suggest is taking away the child’s favorite toys for a reasonable amount of time while making them sit in a corner or something.
Myself or others?
There is no doubt in my mind that we all as people are selfish the majority of the time. I have friends or family members about my age that are always waiting for their next paycheck to buy themselves some new material item all while living with their parent but cannot be bothered by helping pay some bills or purchasing them a small item their parent might really need. I cannot exclude myself; I admit I am selfish at times. I could help around the house or even do some community service to help others that need it or have less than I do but I do not.
Personhood, rights and justice
When I think of a human being, I think of anyone who was born from a woman. I think many people would agree with my statement but when humans or people do certain things we may alter our opinion on what we feel is human. Like men who are believed to have raped a child, many do not believe that person is human anymore. You wish bad things upon them and say if you could harm them as well, you would. Once I saw in the news in Dominican Republic a man who had been accused of raping a girl, was pulled out of a cop car and dragged into a field. The police did not stop these people and let someone record this man being beaten and then set afire. Everyone cheered and no one helped, the man survived that day but later died from his injuries. Even though would he did was wrong, he was still a human being and that those people did a horrible thing just as he did.
