Assignment:

The phrase "Good Design" has dominated design discourse since the 1870s. In her essay, "Broken Nature: (2019), MoMA Design Curator Paola Antonelli writes: "'Good' changes with times and cultures" (37).

Trace the meaning of "good design" from the industrial revolution until now. When was "good design" based on aesthetic factors and when on moral factors? Or economic ones? Good as in beautiful; good as in ethical; or good as in profitable or emotional? Or, good for our pocketbooks, good for humanity, or good for the earth? As Antonelli writes, "The notion of good in design today must also involve ethical responsibility, particularly of the interspecies kind?" Explain that in your answer.
