QUESTION 1
Paco Burgers (PB) is a major chain of fast-food restaurants operating in Australia & New Zealand. They have over 600 restaurants in both countries covering 50 cities. Their Head Office is in Perth, Australia. Paco Burgers employs more than 10, 000 employees. With the growing business, the organisation is facing several challenges - especially in terms of its Information Systems (IS) and related Information Technologies (IT).
The Leadership Team (LT) are trying to respond to the Management Board's demands to provide assessment and an estimate of the total value of Paco Burgers, in particular the profitability of each store across both countries. The LT are thinking of reducing wastage and the need to engage with customers on digital platforms to increase overall profitability of the business.
The CIO (Chief Information Officer) advises this information cannot be easily collected and collated as they have a few challenges to overcome. Firstly, the IT backend systems are outdated and have separate legacy systems across the two countries. They are poorly integrated and need to run multiple reports to extract information required by the LT.
The CEO (Chief Executive Officer) agrees and sympathises with the CIO but reiterates the need to make this happen and probes how this can be made possible. The CIO advises that the best option for Paco Burgers is to acquire an industry-specific ERP system to consolidate and streamline the overall PB processes and business. However, both CEO and CIO expect extensive challenges and pressures on both their Teams in convincing all business users of the need for the new ERP as well as justifying the capital expenditure and related expenses to the Management Board and stakeholders.
