Clinical psychologist Daniel Levinson presents three major stages and four major transitions of adulthood from 17 to 65 years of age where he presents specific tasks and challenges that are associated with development. Levinson postulated that people (specifically men) experience four major conflicts and dichotomies, which must be reconciled to reach a level of content: young versus old; destruction versus creation; masculinity versus femininity; engagement versus separateness.
