Design and Build Assignment
Jindal UK
RS232 Character Generator
INSTRUCTIONS
Follow the specifications in detail.
Design a circuit to meet the individual specification to be confirmed.
Illustrate your circuit design using a schematic diagram Proteus.
Simulate your circuit design using Proteus, to confirm correct operation.
Design a PCB layout for your circuit using Proteus, and have the PCB checked by a lecturer
Email your checked PCB to the electronics technicians [email protected] to have it manufactured
Construct your circuit on PCB, using components available from electronics stores.
Test your circuit in a laboratory, making appropriate measurements on an oscilloscope and then compare to the circuit simulation.
Demonstrate to a lecturer, your working circuit showing that the specification have been met so the constructed circuit and your practical demonstration can be marked.
Document your results in a report, and submit your report before the deadline.

a) General
On the press of a button, the device shall output a stream composed of a single, repeated 7 bit ASCII character at a given Baud rate to an RS232 interface. The Baud rate should be within 3% of the specified rate in order to avoid framing errors.
b) Function
When electrical power is applied the circuit should remain in the reset state. When the pushbutton is pressed the circuit should deliver a stream composed of a single 7 bit ASCII character at the specified baud rate (characters and baud rates shown below).
c) Construction
The device shall be constructed on a single-sided printed-circuit board (PCB).
If additional connections are required these shall be provided by 0Ω links/wires.
The dimensions of the PCB should be no greater than 60 mm × 60 mm.
d) Power supply voltage range
There shall be two electrical connections to the device, to provide electrical power. They shall be denoted GND (ground) and VS (supply). The supply voltage, measured with respect to ground, will be +5 V. Power supply connections (VS and GND) shall be by means of a 2-way connection terminal located at the edge of the board.
e) Characters and Baud Rates
You will be assigned a combination of Baud Rate and ASCII character
