Consider the circuit shown.

a) What is the equivalent resistance of this circuit? Show steps. (Req = 91.25 Ω)

b) Simplifying circuits by using equivalent resistances often makes calculations of current or voltage easier. Let's consider the following question: What is the current through the 54 Ω resistor? BEFORE we answer this let's simplify the circuit. 

i) Redraw the circuit so that we are only left with two resistors; the 54 Ω and the equivalent of the remaining resistors. (R1 + R2 = 37.25 Ω)

ii) Solve the simplified circuit. What is the current through the 54 Ω resistor?(I = 0.132 A)

iii) How much power is dissipated in the 54 Ω resistor? (P = 0.934 W)
