Hydrogen, a potential fuel, is found in great abundance in water. Before hydrogen can be used as a fuel, however, it must be separated from oxygen; the water must be split into H2 and O2 . One possibility is thermal decomposition, but this requires high temperatures. Even at 1000 oC , K = 7.33 x 10 -18 for the reaction:

2H2O(g) ----> 2H2(g) + O2(g)

If at 1000 oC, 2.50 mol of water are initially put into a 3.00 L reaction vessel, what will the equilibrium concentrations of H2 and O2 be?
