EPMG 681 Project Management Governance Assignment - Athabasca University, Canada
Assignment: Memorandum to senior management
The final assignment is an individual one, and is worth 30 percent of your final grade. For this assignment, you are asked to write a paper that could serve as a memorandum to the senior executive team (or individual) of your organization (or an organization of your choice) about the current state and future direction of project governance in the organization. In particular, you must analyze "what is" in regard to project governance in the chosen organization, discuss the implications of this status on projects and project management in the organization ("so what"), and present justified recommendations in regard to "what should be" (improvements or innovative approaches). Be sure to provide specific recommendations for the short-term and long-term ("now what"). Your memo should be no more than 1,500 words, with course materials properly cited, and should include references to at least 3 additional pieces of research that you draw upon and that gives your audience further insights.
The purpose of the final assignment is to give you the opportunity to tailor your learnings to the particular industry, organization, and project type you are most interested in. This final assignment should integrate the current literature, core and supplemental readings, and, as appropriate, casework and course discussions. You are expected to apply theoretical and conceptual learnings to your paper to ensure that you incorporate the latest thinking on the topic.
A superior individual assignment goes beyond being descriptive - focusing on the "what" of the Kolb cycle.
It demonstrates critical thinking (so what) and reflects your ability to generate insights and theories about improving practice (now what). Remember that true learning, however, does not take place until you put your new theories (now what) into practice.
