The transition to independence of emancipated foster care youth must be analyzed from an epistemological and methodological perspective. The design of this study fits in well with an interpretivist or constructivist epistemological position, because it is exploratory in nature and acknowledges the subjectivity that is inherent in these young people's experiences. Qualitative research requires a lot of resources, including time and staff. A prudent allocation of resources is necessary to assure the success of the study.
