Plan to replace business ERP
You have been asked to manage an upgrade or replacement of your organization's enterprise resource planning (ERP) software. The ERP system supports all major aspects of the company: finance, human resources, manufacturing, and customer relationship management. The current software is more than 10 years old and is based on even older technology; data-entry screens are text-based and do not offer mouse support. The new version of the software is web-based and offers a graphical user interface (GUI). Most of the ERP system's users have been with the company for over 5 years and are very adept at using the existing system.
Task:
A. Write a visionary plan to be presented to management that will justify the ERP project in the scenario by doing the following:
1. Create a decision flowchart to be used in prioritizing IT projects.
a. Evaluate whether to upgrade or replace the existing ERP system, using the decision flowchart.
2. Discuss one internal or external risk factor that affects the project.
a. Evaluate the potential impact on the project and the organization.
b. Justify a strategy that would effectively mitigate the risk.
3. Create a plan that allows for flexible change management during the ERP software upgrade or replacement.
4. Create a Gantt chart that displays the timeline of the ERP project.
