Assessment Task 1 - Individual Report
Students at campuses outside of Australia have the choice of selecting one of the two topics for this assignment. Students at campuses within Australia are encouraged to do Topic 1, if you want to do topic 2, you need to discuss with your lecturer and get his/her permission.
Topic 1. Government actions or political policies can change at any time in the global environment, thereby may positively or adversely change the business opportunities for firms at home and abroad. Please complete a 1800-2000 word-long analytical paper that addresses the following question:
In what ways, if at all, has the recent deteriorated government relationship between Australia and China affect the strategies of firms located in Australia and their domestic and international competitiveness? Use corporate examples from selected industries and countries to support your argument. From the international business perspective, what's the managerial implications for firms engaging in international business?
Your report will be assessed based on the following criteria:
Word count requirement: 1,800~2,000 words.
Content:
1. A clear, informative introduction and well summarized conclusion with the key elements of your argument,
2. Good understanding of different elements of national/international business environments, of how government policies can influence their country's competitiveness, and what the implications are for firms.
3. Use sufficient and appropriate material and apply relevant concepts/perspectives/theories effectively support the key points.
4. A clear logical flow between paragraphs and demonstrate the ability to critically reflect upon key ideas/issues.
5. Integration of content and literature written skills
Format:
1. Use appropriate academic writing format. Make sure the writing is easy to read but avoid looking like a list of bullet points. This is not a business report. You do not need to write an executive summary. A coherent answer to the questions is what I looking for.
2. Attach any relevant appendices to the assignment.
3. Source material should be correctly identified and referenced. The APA of citing references is recommended.

Topic 2: This assessment task is designed to help you become more familiarized with reading and extracting information from empirical articles. From a scholarly journal, chose an empirical publication from the past 5-years. Please attach a copy or link to the article on the day of submission. The paper should be a critical analysis of the article not a mere summary. All articles are recommended come from the journals recommended under the Leading Journals in Business Studies section.
The layout of the review should be as follows:
1. Author(s) and Title
2. Purpose and theoretical background of the study
3. Hypothesis
4. Methodology (participants, study design, measures, procedures)
5. Results
6. States and understated limitations
7. Implication for the field
8. Overall evaluation/assessment/critique
